Most of us could say our grandparents broke the drinking age laws, as did our parents, ourselves and now our children break them. No one has EVER respected these laws. I do not support a drunken society, or children drinking, but obvioulsy these laws have never had the consent of the public. I think its time for them to be rethought. I support a 18 or 19 year old drinking age, as that would keep it out of the high schools, but allow those who are going to drink anyway to do it without all the useless sneaking around. We have thrown out stupid laws before that people refused to obey. I remember having to drive 55 on the interstate, but finaly good sense prevailed and now most states allow 70 on interstates. Laws only have meaning if the public supports them and their enforcement.
In many states, a lot of 18 year olds are in high school. In Colorado, high school seniors start turning 18 in October, and that's not counting those who are held back for various reasons, which is a lot of kids with summer birthdays. I could handle 19, would prefer 20, but I'm totally opposed to 18, which would mean high school students could buy alcohol legally, and would buy it for younger kids.

Hell yeah, man. You can get charged as an adult at age 18 but you can't drink as such? That's B.S. I'ma get lifted anyhow, regardless what the law say.

Lower it to 20 and see what happens, if that goes smoothly maybe drop it again to 19. I don't think 18 will ever work though, way too many kids in high school at that age.

It's not even that enforced anyway. I remember visiting my buddies in Pavek Hall and carrying in a case of beer in my backpack. Where'd I get that beer? From a buddy's 21 yr old cousin. We used to even get into Playmakers and drink.... Where there is a will, there is a way. No age limit is going to restrict kids. Some of the hardest drinkers I have ever met were from Fargo and North Dakota, and it's not because they obeyed the law until age 21. To me, it's kind of worthless to even care about. Big deal, it's not like not being 21 ruined my life, after being 21 and experiencing the bar scene and wasting money, I'd love to go back to house parties with that fear or 'taboo' of potentially getting caught. Big deal, i'll pay the $160 ticket or lace up my Nikes and run.

Prohibition has never really worked with alcohol, but if you have to put an age limit somewhere, 18 is just fine. Those that can't handle it can in my opinion drink their guts out and drop dead, not my problem. No need to make life more difficult to the silent majority, that can keep their drinking perfectly under control at 18 years old.

Lower it to 18, but keep the DUI threshold at .01 or .02 BAC (zero tolerance) until they turn 21.

Yes, I am definitely in favor of lowering it to 18.
