Old thread. I'm now in Wisconsin. Both states were on my radar as places to move to a couple years ago.

This question of the OP reminds me of a question like this: Which do you like better: cold as h__ or just a bit colder than cold as h___?

Less crime than MN? I don't think so. Where did you come up with that? Same with schools....Wisconsin has been seriously lagging lately and their schools are falling by the wayside, and all the while your beloved Governor is taking teacher's rights away from its residents and will make the state LESS attractive for teachers (probably not a good thing for students).

I have no idea where you get your information from but I presume you made this up. The two states are very comparable in a number of measures but these are two in particular that I don't think Wisconsin can go toe to toe with Minnesota on.

I haven't looked at schools, yet, but MN does rank higher in crime.

Please, Minnesota without the Twin Cities is Iowa. Minnesota is nice for nature, peace and quite and dirt roads but I'm a city guy and while the Twin Cities are nice they don't do anything for me and being 6-7 hours away from Chicago is a deal breaker. I would rather live in WI and next to Lake Michigan on days MN is getting blasted with 12inches of snow we're getting rain(see Lake Effect).

Show me the ranking/source.

Here are some I found:
http://www.oregon.gov/CJC/pages/indexcrimerate09.aspx
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_..._by_crime_rate
http://www.statestats.com/DANG00RANK.htm (this one favors your WI argument)
http://www.usa.com/rank/us--crime-index--state-rank.htm (and another)

I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised by the data, since MN is such a non-violent state (relative). Milwaukee has such terrible crime that I figured it more than carried the entire state of WI higher than MN for crime/violent crime.

Nobody here really cares about Chicago, We're happy with Minneapolis-St Paul.
