Maybe I should go metric. In American, it's 5'13". It should be said that way to see how many people actually know what you said. For most, it just confuses them.

Well, that's the problem with U.S system and metric is much easier and better. However, I thought you say 6' 1'' and not 5' 11''. I thought it's up to 10 inches, and not over 10.

12 inches equals one foot in Imperial. So it goes up to 11. You can be 5'11'', but 5'12" does not exist, because that's 6'0". Then it starts over again.
Metric does seem simpler if you're familiar with it, which I'm really not.
