Oh, I don't know about that. So. Dak. is in the upper Midwest and we have the highest point east of the rockies~Harney Peak.
It's got a few names~Midwest, Plains States, Heartland. But I do agree that there are a few states that just don't seem to fit in geographically. Ohio and Indiana are Midwestern, but they are so far east that it doesn't make a lot of sense.
What do you think would be a good name and how would you make the division?

All the states adjacent to the Great Lakes are commonly referred to as the Great Lakes States [though east of Ohio are part of the East -PA & NY]. From Minnesota\ Dakotas south to Oklahoma is the Mid-West or Plains States

Small Plains
I would say call them the Small Plains, in deference to the Great Plains states.

Crapland? Boringland? Flyoveria? Seriously people--get over yourselves.
It boggles the mind how arrogant and condescending people can be over the Internet.

Being from Michigan, I've always liked "Heartland" or "Great Lakes region"

Middle East- but I guess that only works for war zones like Detroit, Gary, East St. Louis, Cleveland

Usually it's a sign of inferiority. They need to feel better about themselves, so have a little mercy.

Relax, guy. It's all tongue-in-cheek. I've flown over it only once and I didn't even look out the window. There must have been a good movie on that flight.

Wait, wait, wait.... so youre telling me that Californians are mentally capable of using a computer, finding a travel website, ordering some tickets, finding their way to the airport, boarding the correct plane and then flying across country?!?!?!
Bullcrap.
