What Great Lake is near Nebraska and Kansas?

I think Midwest fits just fine, but if you have to change it: Heartland.

Iowa and Missouri are also plains states. Also, ND, SD, NE, and KS don't fit with any other region. They're not Western, or Southern; and certainly not Northeastern. They fit with the Midwest. I think that you would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between rural Nebraska and rural Indiana. It's all Midwestern corn belt territory.

But if we're midway between the east and west, wouldn't that make us the "midwest"? And no, we're not like the Northeast.

Have to agree. After living here for decades, AND the Northeast for almost 20 years, I can agree that "Thank God, we are not the Northeast." Nothing wrong with the people over there, but it never did feel right and while I have some dear friends there, I am glad to be back to normalcy right here in the good ol' Midwest.
