where is a good place to move for someone whose husband does construction? he has done concrete, painting,roofing,drywall,plumbing,tree trimming, and he was also a garbage man. we were interested in northwest or northeast mostly but maybe possibly the upper midwest but not to likely. we want a small small town (under 5000) or a village. close to major city of some sort for work. we are 15 minutes from omaha in a town of 600 people. kids play outside all over here and are safe. i like oregon but i hear the econemy is so bad and the schools. ashland was our first choice because of family but didnt one of there schools even close down? we pay 1000.oo for rent now and would like to keep it that way with a big yard or land.
Well, here in Atlanta it's still one of the fastest growing metro areas in North America, with an average of over 55,000 people per year moving here. There's tons of construction going on from private to commercial sectors, even in the slower economy (though a bit less of it lately). Now, unfortunately, you get traffic that almost rivals L.A., crime that's on its way of matching New Orleans, and smog, sprawl, etc. So, maybe one of the suburbs will offer you slightly less troubles with the job opportunities the city itself brings.
An alternative would be Charlotte, which is also experiencing a lot of growth.
I would think the areas around Houston will need a lot of construction workers here in the next few months. I can't imagine that it will take long for the good people of Texas to start rebuilding their beautiful metropolis.
