San Francisco shows some imrovements-especially economically since the dot com bust which really knocked the wind out of this resilient region...it was very, very bad. There are lots of new projects and buildings in DT that showcase this supposed improvement. The City hustles and bustles like never before and the Bay Area is growing at a healthy rate.

But the homeless problem in San Francisco is just out of control and we really need to do something about it. Crime in The City and elsewhere is on the rise too and that's always a bad thing.

Also, I just dont see a floor to the housing mess yet.

Des Moines has grown so much since 2000, definitely changing for the better.

I think the terms "improved" and "declined" are pretty subjective. Do you mean economically or are you using something else as a basis of comparison.

In my area of Branson, Missouri, the developers, and big money people would say that the area has improved. However, anyone who enjoys the beautiful countryside and the outdoor activities that are available here would definitely say that it has declined. So much of our beautiful Ozark wilderness has been destroyed by development and over-building.

Personally, I would say that it has declined significantly although new construction reaches into the millions of dollars. We have a new airport coming online in 2009 and there are countless, upscale, golfing communites and of course there is the new waterfront shopping development, the Landing. But still, the loss of habitat and destruction to the environment cannot be measured in mere dollars.

We have a Wal-Mart now, and we've expanded by about 30% in population. Lots of new housing and businesses built (My house was built in 2000). The best Mexican restaurant ever opened.

Lafayette, Louisiana continues to improve.
Lots of construction, lots of new urban communities and downtown residential being built.
The high speed city network is bringing tech jobs to the area as well.

I would say wichita Kansas has declined. It's considered the aircraft capital if the world. Before Sep 11 things were pretty good. After that and the recession, the economy is pretty weak compared to nearby cities like kc and okc. It's a boom and bust town. I would say now we are waiting for the next boom after the last bust. There is still growth, its just very slow.

So that would be "declined"?

The Boston/E. MA area is not what it used to be. The insane cost of living has pushed away the middle class (especially the young), and being replaced by layabouts from elsewhere (as well as annoying yuppies). I'm increasingly thinking about bailing to NH or ME.

I pick all three choices.
It It's improved in certain areas (economy), Stayed the same in others (corrupt politics; graat food) and declined in other areas (crime).
