That's cool, we don't want Maryland. Actually Maryland CAN'T be considered part of the South anymore, and in the future will have to re-apply when it wants back in - and it will.

Ask anyone in the *true* north. DC usually is not considered that. Maybe some up north would disagree, but anyone I've spoken to would laugh if NoVA/DC/MD were considered the Northeast.
Just because it has a high population density and traffic, does not mean it's part of the northeast. No way, no how.

This post is ages old,yet your a joke.I live in NYC and any smart NYER would never refer to MD and DE as being southern. The two states are right in that corridor in the northeast.

DC AND MD are part of the Northeastern Corridor. What part of this is hard to understand. It is also part of the BOS-WASH megapolis.Politically its considered Northern.Geographical wise today its referred to as either MID ATLANTIC or NORTHEASTERN.I live in NYC and here any informed individual refers to MD as being either inbetween or NORTHEAST as well.A southerner will laugh at anyone considering MD,DC the southeast.
Whoever said DC,MD does not have the grittiness NY,Philly is totally ignorant that the city of DC and Baltimore are much more violent than NYC,PHILLY.

Maryland is not the south and most of it does not have a southern feel.

NC is sometimes included in the Mid-Atlantic zone too. Are you saying NC is NE too? And even SC has been in the Mid-Atlantic (banking zone)
Also, you are wrong about Southrons wanting to include DC as part of the South. Many see it as North now.But I see it as South because I grew up near there and KNOW more about the area.
When they are "selling the South" - they will include DE and MD as part of the picture- but to me MD and DE are BORDER STATES. They are not truly Northeastern states.
I have been up Nawth. Do you think DC is like Buffalo, NY? LOL.
I dont want to be rude about it though. That would be un-Southern.
|
What planet are you living on? I rarely ever see DC/MD being sold as the south.Even in the hip hop world the south never ever references DC,MD as being southern. Not even the Northern hip hop artist.
DC has a very northern feel. The weather and its mentality and politics are very northern.

Alexandria , VA would not be DC, though. If we talk about DC including "NOVA" then thats something a little different.
NOVA is not Northeast, IMO. Never will be. No matter how transient it gets.
|
NOVA has a culture that is northern because of its close prox to its northern states(MD on UP).Though tech. it is part of the first southern state(Virginia)

Wilmington, baltimore, and washington, d.c. Are all definitely northeastern in character and feel...they have twice as much in common with philadelphia than with richmond. Their weather is also humid-continental like...maryland and delaware are both very capable of cold snowy winters in addition to hot, humid summers. Not to mention, southern dialect is pretty much absent in these states.
