I consider the Pacific Northwest to be Western Washington, Western Oregon, and down into Humboldt county in California. I also claim British Columbia (Vancouver), despite the fact that is in Canada.

This is the definition I'd go with. People don't realize that eastern Oregon is desert. Western states are hugely varied.
