West Virginia is not part of the South. Technically, it's a "Mid-Atlantic" state. During the civil war, Virginia split into half - Virginia went South, WV went North. Regardless, while some consider it "Southern", it's not. It's Appalachian heritage is very different.

well to be fair, Appalachia extends all the way into Mississippi, but i agree that wv isn't the south. neither is virginia nowadays.
where do you want the south to start and end people?? Florida to Georgia?

to someone who was born and raised here in the south, it's the eastern half of Texas, louisiana, mississippi, arkansas, tennessee, alabama, georgia, all of florida, south carolina, and north carolina. that's it.
I don't care where, but somewhere on that map it should have an arrow pointing to a small area that is captioned "There Be Dragons Here"
Yeah I don't think so few regions does it justice. Needs at least a South/Deep South designation. I'm in the south and I'm pretty fluent in hickanese/hillbillian/jibba-jabba, but there are some parts where I feel like i fell into a third world country in all aspects and I have no idea what people are trying to say to me.
I just want my bucket of minnows. How hard is that? No, for the love of god put the vienna sausages down! What is that smell? Why are you looking at my daughter like a piece of meat? Quick, distract them with a shiny coin and run!
The one region missing is the Great Plains, IMO. It's such a vast landscape, and it defines the type of people who live and survive there.
The region should include the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, much of Texas, the eastern parts of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado & New Mexico, and also the western parts of Minnesota & Iowa, and a small part of Missouri.
Otherwise, it looks like a good map.

You're right, we aren't midwesterners but we also aren't really southerners either. Culturally, the Ozarks is dominated by Appalachian influences ranging from as far north as Penn and Ohio all the way to the south. In fact, people in my family who have been in the Ozarks since before 1900 (some even before 1850) use the word "yuns" instead of "ya'll".
The map seems fine. Only the colors shouldn't just end so abruptly, they should fade into the next color.
