Bag, as in "bad." I'm from Texas, but I'm going to school up here in the North and I'm sorry but I have to chuckle every time someone says "baeg." Or better yet, "put the baegs and the paerts in the caer!"

Where in the North are you?

Okay, okay technically it's the Upper Midwest, but it's the North to me! I'm in Nebraska, but there's a lot of people here from South Dakota and Minnesota and Wisconsin, so it's not uncommon to hear a bunch of Dan Aykroyd's walking around XD

I understand about the MN/WI/SD accent - it is very noticeable.

Dan Aykroyd is from Canada.

As a matter of fact you're right, he was born in Canada. For some reason I always associate him with like Chicago. But the stereotypical Canadian and Minnesotan accents sound very similar to me.

I, too, have succumbed to speaking MinnahSOHT'n when I'm speaking to people here. It's not forced--it just happens. I actually have said, "Yah, you betcha" and I've also ended my sentences with a preposition: "Are you coming with?" (That drove me crazy when we moved here!) I've even said, "Oh, fur cue-ut" (cute). Our youngest was four when we moved here, so she says all the above as well as "about" in that somewhat Canadian manner.

How do you say it?

As with the last poll, please include where you're from in the answer.
Like the "A" in the word "bad". That's how it's supposed to be pronounced!

Neither...it's hard to explain. I say it like "b-ai-g" if that makes sense.

It's not just NE Minnesota - most people in the Twin Cities say it the same way. I think it's the entire state of Minnesota.
