While California does have the highest population, it does have some serious contenders with states like New York, Florida, and Texas. I wouldn't say California is the most powerful state; I don't really think it could easily survive without the rest of the nation.
And by the way, the wording of option #2 was extremely ridiculous. Of course "shows are filmed there," but does that make a state more "powerful"? Of course it is strong economically, but others have strong economies as well. And what is a "cali accent"?

I think it can survive quite well, or even better without the drag of the rest of the states- of which there is no peer with numbers. All other states are mid-sized.
