I spent a few days inside the USAA building in San Antonio one weekend back in the 1980's.
It didn't seem to be really that large of a building. It's like someone took a New York city sky-scraper and laid it on it's side. If I recall correctly, it was only 5 or 8 stories above ground, with another 3 stories below ground. Runs for about 2000 feet in length. A huge canyon of an atrium runs down the middle of the building.

This is a list of largest buildings by floor area in the United States that I compiled from Wikipedia. I had to find the information on the USAA building from another site.
The Palazzo in Las Vegas is 6.9 million square feet
The Pentagon is 6.6 million square feet
The Magnuson Health Sciences Building in Seattle is 5.7 million square feet
The Renaissance Center in Detroit is 5.5 million square feet
The USAA Building in San Antonio is 4.6 million square feet
The Sears Tower in Chicago is 4.5 million square feet
The Chrysler Tech Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan is 4.4 million square feet.
The Boeing Plant in Everett, Washington is 4.3 million square feet.
Merchandise Mart in Chicago is 4 million square feet.
For those keeping score, there are five buildings outside of the U.S. that are larger than the Palazzo.
