Hmm, Mammoth Mountain perhaps (though the threat of Volcanic eruption is very real there), maybe Bishop. If I had to leave CA altogether, I'd probably head to Washington State or Colorado.

Either somewhere in Appalachia like, KY, NC, TN, VA. Or Montana around Glacier NP. I also like the U.P. of Michigan.
