I know that there is a recession and unemployement rates are at an all time high, but I am really thinking about relocating to either DC/VA/MD area or Chicago.

I know that there are pros and cons for ever city, but is there anyone that has lived in both and can give me their opinion about them?

Are there still people that are relocating for jobs in these cities even with the recession?

Am I crazy for wanting to relocate right now? Well, it will not be until late summer when I actually make the move.

*Many apologies in advance if this has been posted already. I tried to search, but nothing really came up*

Its kinda hard to speak to the job situation without knowing your field of work. However, I think that the DC area will probably fair better overall compared to Chicago due to the recession-proof nature of Federal government jobs.

I agree. I'm from Chicago and lived in the DC area for 3 years. I'd pick DC/MD/VA.

My advice is to start looking for a job in both cities and this process will tell you a lot about what opportunities are available for you.

Chicago is a far better city, though, and there are still plenty of jobs.

-Some additional information-
Right now, I work in the mortgage industry and the company that I work for just filed for bankruptcy and my job, as well as others, are on the line. There is a possibility, about 65%, I could get laid off, so I am trying to be proactive about my job search and seriously considering moving to Chicago or the DC area.

The field that I would like to go into is Marketing/PR/Advertising. Also, I would like to get my masters degree, so a city with universities nearby would be a plus.

I have been to the DC area 3 times and it was a nice place, but I want to keep my options open. I have visited Chicago once, but it was just for family business.
