If money was no object....what is the best city/region in the United States?

Honestly...I really don't know. San Diego is nice so is San Fran (albeit a bit liberal for my tastes)...

Sedona, AZ would be a nice place to retreat to. It has beautiful scenery and great people! I'd probably buy a mountain-side home here if I had the $$.
Rancho Santa Fe is another great area (a distant cousin of mine lives there, unfortunately he's loaded....I'm not).

But if money was no object, I'd buy a couple thousand scenic acres of land in Montana and build a large log-style home. I could retreat there in the summertime when the heat here is unbearable. Scottsdale in the winter, Montana in the summer, Sedona for an all around retreat; it sounds good to me...now who's going to approve my loan?

I second the idea of Sedona Arizona. Truly a magical place of beauty.

I'd have an apartment in a NICE part of Manhattan or Boston (for culture & things to do) and a few acre holding somewhere out west that is unspoiled by industry to relax at and enjoy nature.

Much of the central CA coast is beautiful to me. But if I could snag a home above West Cliff Drive overlooking the Ocean... that would be amazing! I think it would be a true measure of just how progressive I really am as there wouldn't be many places more liberal than this. It also doesn't hurt that San Francisco - one of my favorite cities - and Los Angeles - which I've yet to visit - are fairly easy to get to when I want my uber-urban fix! Otherwise I could just be in relative chillout mode in my Santa Cruz abode.
