I think almost all are very nice. Here are the ones I do NOT like:
Florida Georgia
Illinois
Kansas
Maryland
Michigan
Minnesota New York Oklahoma Tennessee
Wisconsin
It's a sort of an opera-singer preference. Those are the names that seem to lack a boldness and purity of syllabic sound that would make them hard to fit into a libretto. Most, in fact, are rarely used inm the lyrics of American songs, largely for that reason.
It took me about two seconds to think of songs that had these states mentioned in them.
Best:
California -sounds warm
Colorado -sounds really pretty and has a crisp sound
The Dakotas -plurals just sound good
The Carolinas -"
Massachusetts -sounds like a pretty Native American word
Florida -sounds lush and warm
Louisiana -pretty French girl
Washington -clean ("Wash" ington)
Alaska -sounds big
Minnesota -another pretty Native American word
Georgia -sounds powerful
Worst:
Oregon -sounds like organ (could be a penis or liver reference)
Utah -not a pretty word
New York -doesn't roll off the tongue
Mississippi -too silly sounding and looks dumb
Missouri -misery
New Mexico -because Old Mexico just didn't work out
You never know who to side with, right? You "love" New Mexico So much.., didnt you even say you would love to live there, and all the bull**** nonsence you said, the fact is.. your lost.
Good Question Just for the fun of it....Obviously, the people naming the states didn't think about all the things we mothers have to when naming children these days.
Best Sounding:
Georgia--just about as sweet as peach pie or even better--pecan pie!
Louisiana--sounds like the southern belle she is.
Maryland--merry land--what a happy place--OR--the marry land--the place to get married
North Carolina--Must of been quite a lady, to have been so revered that one Carolina was not enough
South Carolina--Carolina is such a beautiful, feminine name. See above..
Virginia--see The Carolina's above
West Virginia--see the Carolina's above
Worst Sounding:
Alabama--Al a bam a--sounds like I need to run from Al or he'll bam ya'
Arkansas--Ar can saw? who cares...
Connecticut--Connect ti cut...now isn't that just the dumbest thing ever? Connect it 2 cut it..
Delaware--Dela Where? I'd hate to be wondering where Della's at all the time
Florida--Floor i da--like being walked on all of the time
Idaho--Ida ho--poor Ida the ho OR I da ho--even worse yet..I the ho
Illinois--(my home state)--Ill in ois---like waking up sick everyday... OR in the case of those who
pronounce Illinois (incorrectly) as Illi noise-please quiet down
Indiana--In di Ana--I feel sorry for Anna..poor girl needs a break.
Iowa--I owe-a--Just plain bad Karma here...Are you gonna ever get out of debt? Everyday you wake up you have to worry about who you owe what to....
Mississippi-- miss a sip or you're gonna have to pee.
Missouri-very BAD Karma---nothing but misery..
New Jersey--you would name the whole state after a new article of clothing??? or a cow??
Ohio--Oh hi O...if you can't say hi with anymore enthusiasm than that--don't say it at all.
Oregon--discussing body parts is not my idea of a conversation I want to have today.
Texas--sounds too much like taxes..means you're taking my money
Utah--sounds so harsh..like I'm being blamed for something
Washington--washing ton--sounds like a life of hard labor in the laundry room
Wisconsin--wis con sin--sounds like a place where con's & sin rule...
Wyoming--why owe ming? I don't want to think I owe Ming anything
In the case of Louisiana--you must pronounce it as Louise AND NOT "lose" e ana--cause then it becomes LOSER.....
Maryland--merry land--what a happy place--OR--the marry land--the place to get married
i hope you don't think it's pronounced that way
