Same here in Sarasota and with our "illustrious" new governor...Florida is getting worse.
Insurance rates are spiraling out of control.....house prices still falling...crappy weather......
Sarasota voted meanest city almost every year...it's becoming an elitist "gated community mentality".........I think people are now fed up with Florida.
I can't speak for all of Florida, but South Florida is the worst....unless beaches, nighclubs and upscale dining is your thing....I couldn't care less.

I am stuck in Northern Illinois, at least until my house sells. I hate it here. Lousy weather, high unemployment, high crime, crappy schools, high property taxes, rude people. The whole town looks like a strip mall. If I don't sell, I'm putting a tenant in the house and leaving. I have decided I'm ot going to spend another winter here.
I live in Little Rock, Arkansas, and while its not the worst place in the world, and there are things to like about it such as the natural beauty and the low cost of living, the city itself doesn't offer much especially for somebody my age with my interests. Its very conservative, extremely suburban-oriented, and overall doesn't offer enough "things to do" to keep things fresh for a long period of time. I am stuck here however for a few more years at least until the economy recovers.
I see countless threads on here with people talking about how great their cities are, but I was wondering how many people here live somewhere they don't really like but are stuck due to life circumstances. I see all these threads about young college grads moving to their dream city, but not everybody has the ability to pack up and move across the country even if they want to.
My mom moved us from Conn to south FL when I was 9... I hate it here. I was a semi "cool" kid up in CT but when we moved down here I was bullied until 10th grade... So half of my years here were...well...kinda tramatic...LOL... I eventually moved to North FL for college a few years ago and didn't like it any better... I went from living in a predominately upper class area in south florida to a very impoverished one up here in North FL. Very big difference in the areas but a few things are the same.
1) lack of community- you know few, if any of your neighbors here. No one is really willing to help you with anything. Unless you find a nice person.
2) terrible education- both at the K-12 levels and college/university level. I can't wait to move up north just so I can gain extra knowledge
3) Its so hot here- that you really can't do anything outdoors... even in the winter (in south fl) children are so obese in some of the areas that I lived in and I believe it is tied to lack of education, and the heat. Even if you wanted to do something outside, the traffic is terrible so especially for children there is no safe place for them to really play and for adults if you want to do anything outside you have to really search for it. (not like up north where you can drive a bit then go hiking, canoeing...etc)
4) everything is being over developed- my goodness even when I first moved to Florida I thought the development was bad... but its even worse. I honestly don't need a Starbucks on every corner to be happy! (maybe a dunkin donuts for their coffee....but thats another story ) I really dislike how you have tons of Walmarts/targets/grocery stores...but no local butchers where you can get meat that isn't filled with antibiotics/ammonia...etc... and I would love a nice farmers market or what have you for some fruits and veggies that aren't caked in pesticides... the towns become so overdeveloped with modern convinces that they forget what people really need to feel fulfilled.
I hope to be moving up to Plattsburgh next summer so my fiancee can continue his education and hopefully get a better one than he did here. I'm going to be looking for a good Master's program for myself in the meantime.
I really want to move up there because I want to have a sense of community again. I want to know my neighbors, I want to be active whether it be in a local club/organization, volunteering, or even by getting out and doing some hiking or visiting historic sites.
So I think in a nut shell, those are the main reasons for me wanting to leave here and search out a better life.

Prolly real difficult to sell right now, looking to move to Cali, Corona maybe Oceanside maybe.I like the puget sound area (I'm very outdoorsy), wife won't do it though............I'm from Long Island and I miss the island !

Wait... so your wife choose to live in Lake Havasu city but won't consider puget sound? I think the heat must be getting to her living in that flaming inferno.
