I live in Tampa, Florida and moved from D.C. area. I am not really stuck here, but it would cost a lot for me to go back home due to rent and the fact that I am on disability. I like some things about Tampa and really like St. Pete, but I miss the culture.
I know this thread dates back, 2 years, but it fascinates me.
And, my fascination for it belies where I live. I absolutely, love to visit with people about their opinions of place AND I live very, very rural--outstate Nebraska.
I wonder if many of you, who feel isolated from cultural diversity, would (like me) consider brainstorming the economy of putting back, into the country, train tracks and fast trains.
Yeh, yeh, I know. It's not feasible. Well, I just wonder..................and, I just wonder if someone has an idea about how it could be afforded. I guess the biggest obstacle to Amtrak is that passengers deplete the efficiency of freight transfer.
I just wonder if wonderful neighborhoods and lifestyle could be more available and liveable IF they were served by trains. My problem, here, is not the lack of Amtrak as it makes a passenger stop 22 mi. from me, on its way to Denver or Omaha. The problem is that stop is at 3:00 AM.
Otherwise, it whisks me to activities, whenever, and brings me back, ah-hh, home. And, the ticket is cheap compared to my usual Exxon contribution.
Although the most recent post didn't really answer the question, I'm going to, because yes, I am stuck somewhere I am definitely less than crazy about. I am stuck in North Carolina, and I don't like the place at all. We are trying to sell the house and move back to Pennsylvania. Hopefully someone will buy it soon. I hate it here in North Carolina.

Which part of the state are you in? All parts of NC aren't created equal.

Not stuck in Massachusetts, but planning to leave. I don't hate or resent it here, just more along the lines of, been here long enough. It's been a good match for me for a while, but much of my family has moved away already. I've lived here most of my life and also 5 years in Seattle. In other words my whole life in a cold, damp, northern climate. I'm just not that affectionate for the whole 4 quintesential seasons that so many boast about here, especially the long winters. I'd rather be someplace that is still somewhat seasonal but also gets abundant sunshine. I'd like to get away from the East Coast rate race as well, it's just not for me. Someplace still under the radar, a place with different cultures and character where I can start new traditions and a lower cost of living. I appreciate wide open spaces, natural superlatives, colorful areas, and mountains. After travelling around the country to 35 states and craving to live in the West again where my soul feels at home, Albuquerque is where I'd like to settle and I'll be there pretty soon. I can't wait to get there!
I made ONE big mistake and moved to Upper Michigan.. I will never get out of here alive.. huge mistake!!..Absolutely NOTHING to do here.....this is true misery!
