My hometown of Foxboro, MA, was once home to the world's largest straw hat making factory.

As for Boston, King Louis-Philippe of France once lived above the Union Oyster House while he was in exile and taught French to students.

10% of the world's cotton is grown within 100 miles of Lubbock. You probably have something in your closet that was grown here.

There are really beautiful older areas of Orlando. I did not expect there to be when I moved here.

Syracuse-That it's not a college town. It has one of the poorest neighborhoods in the country. It has the highest snowfall average of any major city in the US(not Buffalo and it's at around 120 inches a winter). That Tom Cruise was born there. That it's University neighborhood was recognized as one of the top 10 neighborhoods in the country the American Planning Association recently. That the 24 second shot clock was invented here and had an NBA team for 17 years that won an NBA championship in 1954-55. It was a major Underground Railroad stop.

Most people don't know that Houston was founded by two brothers from New York, and that fajitas were "invented" here (arguably, as San Antonio likes to stake a claim to them as well). And so was the silicone breast implant.

Nope. My family is from Sweden. But I went to a Finnish festival in Berlin, New Hampshire during the Summer a few years ago and learned that the Finns have a number of descendants all over New England. There also seems to be a number in the northern areas of Minnesota as well which is no surprise given the number of Scandinavians in that state.
