Philly is a majority black city, and blacks have lived there as free people longer than anyother major city in the US. The Philly area is one of the few metros in the US that have a considerable amount of "Old" black money.
Dallas and Houston have a very strong, and growing, black presence, but most of those families have just relatively recently moved in from the surrounding countryside.
Blacks have been living in Houston and Dallas since the 1800s; blacks moving to Texas isn't recent.
Don't even try that; life for blacks in Philly wasn't perfect and still isn't. It's reasons why many blacks preferred to remain in the south during slavery.

All I know is that even after slavery my family pretty much fled the south because if you didn't have a job you would be arrested for vagrancy(true story).
I don't know why people bring up Jim Crow in the South and ignore discrimination that happend up north. In 1940s according to Malcolm X biography, discrimination was happening in Boston. Come on folks.

Nobody's saying that the North wasn't racist, but the South was on a whole nother level
Boston was by far the most racist city in the north east... that's still true today
Boston is complicated, as there are some areas that have been mixed for a long time and even things like interracial relationships have been going on for a very long time in the area. There are or have been middle to upper middle class Black areas that go way back too. So, it is a complex area in that regard.
As much as I love Michigan, even I can't agree with that list.
Also, as usual, the same cities are being talked about - Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, etc. Does anyone want to think outside the box?
