Black people tend to vote democratic anyways. To young people, Obama is different from the other presidents because he got them so involved in the election. When he won, it made them feel like they had a voice.
I think its partially media driven too. The Obamas are constantly in the headlines. America tends to capitalize on events, hence souvenirs, gossip, etc. Its a huge deal regardless though.
Food for thought: What if the first 43 presidents were black. There's a black and a white running for office. In general, who do you think the white people would vote for?
I think people should vote for who they feel is the best candidate by the way.
I work at a restaurant in Waco TX, so I see a little bit of all walks of life here, so just out of curiosity I asked my customers they're feelings........I'll break it down,
Whites under age 30.......majority excited, a few not so much
Whites over age 30......not happy at all
Hispanics..........mixed feelings
Blacks........They think hes GOD!
At my Univeristy (U of Memphis) almost of the black ppl were excited. Many skipped class to watch the inaguration. Most of the professors lean liberal, so they were pretty excited as well. The white students are pretty evenly split b/t conservative & liberal. The conservatives dont care much at all. They really dont bring it up.
I'm white and all my friends along with my family and myself were extremely excited about Obama for his rational thinking, his ideas, and the fact when we hear him it feels like he's talking to us and it makes sense.
honestly between the 100 conversations we've had about the man, we all KNOW he's black, but it was never really anything more than a unique after-thought. His race was really a very very small factor in what I thought of Obama, and I'm surprised so many people are focusing on this alone.
I can obviously see why black people are very emotional about this election, but I hope at the end of the day people are collectively excited about him as a man, and not just a black man.
This whole overrated, overblown, silly Obama crap is already wearing me down. People... he's a man. He bleeds red blood. He eats food. He sleeps. He takes huge, stinky, steamy, corn-chunkalicious dumps in the toilet. Heck, I bet he even breathes air!!!!!!!!
Quit bowing down to him like he's some kind of prophet. Seriously.
