Just a little "political" comment on my sister-in-law's stay in Paris after 9/11. For all the negative feelings about Freedom Fries, etc., the French treated her like royalty after 9/11. She was not only given FREE hotel stay for those 4 days when she couldn't get back, but her meals as well. When she went to a restaurant, as soon as they heard her American accent, and her story, they gave her free meals as well. For all the French bashing after 9/11, that was not the case on an individual basis in Paris on the days that followed 9/11.

Louisville has a rough year in 2008.
In July two 5 year old girls were ran over and killed while crossing the street with their grandma by a guy in a stolen car trying to evade police.
In December 4 teens were leaving a church event near downtown and got a ride with a guy who had just stolen the car - the 3 teens had no idea it was stolen. A policeman tried to pull the car over, but the driver sped down a busy street a 90 mph before hitting a tree head on. It took 12 hours for all the body parts and pieces of the car to be cleaned up.
For Minneapolis recently, it was the collapse of the I-35W bridge on August 1, 2007, killing 13 and sending more than a hundred cars into the Mississippi River.
Historically, it was probably the Teamster strikes of 1934, in which leaders from the Trotskyist Communist League of America incited riots against the capitalist-led Citizens Alliance. Fighting broke out on May 19th and intensified the next day after a rally of 20,000 people descended on the Warehouse District. Hundreds were injured in bullet-fire although only a few people were killed that day.
On July 31 the National Guard raided the union's headquarters and detained leaders in a stockade in St. Paul. In response 40,000 workers marched on the stockade and the Guard released the leaders and returned control of the headquarters to the union. The strike was settled in August by Federal mediators. The local Teamster union remained under Socialist control until 1941.
-Danielle Van Dam murder
-San Ysidro McDonald's massacre
-Santana High School shooting
-Wildfires every few years
-PSA flight 182 crash
-and recently the F/A-18 crash. Even though the fatalities were few, it was still shocking, particularly since a guy lost his entire family and he lived since he was at work.
here in San Diego:
-Danielle Van Dam murder
-San Ysidro McDonald's massacre
-Santana High School shooting
-Granite Hills High School shooting
-Wildfires every few years (2003 & then again 2007)
-and recently the murders of two young teens by a sex offender. it actually got a lot of national press and it's really sad.
Even though the Pentagon wasn't completely destroyed like the towers was the whole area was on code red.
