I buy online when I can, but if it's more convenient or it's something I just have to try on, I'll go to a store that has what I want, whether it's in a mall or stand alone. Basically, I only shop "in person" when I absolutely have to.
I mostly do not like malls because they do not have the charm that downtown shopping districts have, they are very cookie cutter and filled with boring bland modern architecture, and do not facilitate good community activity. I think that for example Magnificant Mile or 5th Avenue are great shopping areas because they have a lot of charm. Shopping malls are very bland and boring to me.
I hate malls because they are:
climate controlled (BLAH!)
Says the many from Buffalo, NY.... summer is nasty down here... I don't think many people would opt to go to the mall either if negative 20 degree weather, if it were outside.
I like malls. I just don't like the massive parking lots. I know they have chains around the mall, but many times they are also regional chains.
Like in Texas, there is:
Mooyah (there is a ONE in Connecticut, but the other 20-30 locations are in TX)
Burger Street
Whataburger
Taco Bueno
Potbelly
Freebirds
Cracker Barrel
In addition, not all of them are Chains. A good portion are not, as a matter of fact.
I know some of these chains are not just in Texas, but these ARE regional chains. I think there is a certain value to that. It shows the regional food.
I would like malls a lot more if they resembled places like Faneuil hall in Boston. Or Southlake Townsquare, here in Dallas, or Ximending in Taipei.
Granted those are outside, which can get really unpleasant in the summer... at least in Dallas and Taipei.
But that's the only thing I don't like about them. Is how un-city like they are, not that they are climate controlled. I like them otherwise.

I'm the same way. I'm tall, so there are no stores where I can shop for most things anyway, but there are catalogs and websites where I can buy clothing.
Malls: All have the same stores and same stuff as every other mall - nothing unique - cookie cutter.
Isn't almost everything "Cookie Cutter" though?
