Kentucky is a southern state, but I guess it could also be considered Appalachia...or maybe group the Ohio River states together as a subregion. But it's definitely not Mid-Atlantic.
Pennsylvania has no coastline, either, but is considered mid-Atlantic. After I lived in Illinois a while, I began to consider KY the "midwestern south".

My own invention. If Illinois is the midwest, then Kentucy is a midwestern southern state. Also Tenn, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana. But we're talking about Kentucky here.

Anything south of I-70 and north of the Tennessee/Kentucky line from Wheeling to Kansas City.

That makes sense if there's a southeast and northeast why not the same equivalents for other regions of the US?

Years and years ago, before Richmonder was a Richmonder, before Vasinger ever sang a note, before Blueva had ever posted a word, the telephone industry was dominated by the Bells. Richmond was served by Bell Atlantic, not BellSouth. I don't know what that means, and I don't know what Kentucky's phone company was. I just like to poke fun at carpetbaggers.

Yep, and except for WV, those are all generally assumed to be in the Mid-Atlantic region. Richmond hasn't been truly Southern since the rebels burned it down.

I love the fact he even states in his posts "Virginia was very much part of the old south"
That ends the thread right there.
