I can't believe Louisiana is tied for second-last. Arkansas is doing better?!

Forgot Oklahoma, as well as border states of MD and MO. Espeically OK and MO as MO has parts that either geographically or culturally still southern.

Georgia is probably my favorite overall. Atlanta offers the presence of a big city and the state as a whole has a good combination of traditional southern culture, nice, warm weather, and friendly people.

Florida is my favorite to visit, but it doesn't have as much traditional southern culture. And as much as I enjoy warm weather, I wonder if I'd start missing at least a little cold weather in the winter if I lived in Southern Florida.

I think Louisiana is underrated by a lot of people. It has some really beautiful areas and unique culture. And of course New Orleans is fantastic.

1. Georgia

2. Texas ( I consider it southern)

3. North Carolina

4. Louisiana

5. Florida

In that order. I left out my own state because then it would be biased.

I agree they also left out west Virginia. I've noticed some of these polls often exclude the southern states of OK, MD, W VA, & MO.

If your going to include TX as part of the south you might as well include oklahoma.

I like all of the south, but being a NC native, I'm going to go with NC. We have decent sized cities (Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro) plus a lot of rural areas filled with southern charm. We also have fantastic mountains and beaches that are amazing, especially the mountains. Besides NC, I'm going to go with Georgia and Virginia. I love Virginia because it's full of history and Georgia is also great.
