after hours of searching many cities . ive narrowed down to 2.
kinda cities with low COL.
now looking which has more job growth(in IT but no that important)etc
single male in late 20s,.
Both are good. Not sure what IT jobs are in either place. I like KC better, just that it's a large metro with more to do overall. Good luck in your search.
I visited Omaha a few years ago and wasn't expecting much. (This seems to be common among first-time visitors). The city impressed me much more than I would have expected. Not only a strong downtown, but urban neighborhoods near downtown. This is one city that proved me wrong.
Omaha has a much lower unemployment rate, and is more than most people would "expect." Housing is very affordable, and the city is pretty...lots of hills and trees. Not sure about the job growth in IT, but the lower unemployment rate is indicative of a healthier economy.
Kansas City has more than twice as many people in its metro. It has a denser, more urban downtown. It has good arts and nice restaurants. We have MLB, NFL, and even MLS. Neither city is especially"scenic", but KC is closer to the Ozarks. KC is also closer to St. Louis.
Overall I think Kansas City simply offers more than Omaha.
I think the OP should visit both cities before making a final decision. Typically, once people take time to visit Omaha, they're sold- vibrant, urban downtown and surrounding neighborhoods, good arts and music scene, fantastic economy and growing IT opportunities etc etc.. Omaha will offer you pretty much everything you want plus lower crime rate and less traffic hassles.. Omaha is basically a 1 million population metro. KC is basically double that size.. But both are more similar than different and both are fine cities. If major league sports are the tipping point in your decision, pick KC.. But don't disregard Omaha simply because it's smaller like some will argue..
Like I said, visit both cities first before you make your final decision. Omaha will sell itself ..
Very similar look and feel and quality of life. KC is, as everyone here has mentioned, about twice as big, so it has some amenities that come with that and some of the disadvantages too. For every Dundee in Omaha, there's roughly 2 equivalent neighborhoods in KC, for every Bellevue, there's a couple equivalent suburbs in KC. There's also a lot more ghetto in KC and blight, and by virtue of the population difference, both current and historic, there going to be some stuff in KC Omaha just doesn't replicate well, but as the poster above noted, they are both worth a visit, Omaha is kind of a mini-KC, and it's hard to imagine someone liking one and not the other. Des Moines is also kind of a city in the same mold, in a lot of ways. No matter what, give each city a week and then take whichever gives you a better job opportunity.
^ I agree. With these two metros, generally speaking- Omaha is 1/2 a KC or KC is twice an Omaha..
And, they're only 180 miles apart...
