I personally think Minnesota nice - because Southern hospitality is tempered by Southern hostility.

Troll obviously...but i'll bite.

I've always heard Minnesota nice was basically someone being polite in a bare minimum sort of way, then show disdain behind your back.

From wikipedia (I hate using this thing..) Minnesota nice - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Minnesota nice is the stereotypical behavior of long-time Minnesota residents to provide hospitality and courtesy to others. The term is also sometimes used in a derogatory way, to connote a sort of smiling stubbornness, forced politeness, false humility or passive aggressive hostility.
To that end, as the South is actually KNOWN for hospitality & kindness, I chose accordingly.

Nowadays, I think they're both the same. I'd classify it all as 'American nice.' People are either too busy working all the time/trying to keep their job, or being overly self absorbed to be considered 'nice' anymore.

I wonder if a european tourist there would get any "Southern Hospitality" or "Minnesota Nice", I doubt it. maybe minnesota nice if it reallys is faking being nice but nah and american would probably not even fake being nice they would just straight up assault and disrespect europeans openly.

Obviously have never been treated like a Yankee down there.
At least Minnesotans have the decency to wait until you turn around.
Rest assured, Minnesotans dislike outsiders of any sort. Southerners only dislike some outsiders. Our insularity is equal opportunity. Southerners are so cute when they dislike you, though. They maintain a nice smile, but you can always see the contempt boiling behind it.

LOL This is true! The few Minnesotans I've met seem to be almost as good at the backhanded compliment as Baltimoreans though. A bit more on the side of humble chest pounding if you will but still in similar vein to the backhanded compliment.

Only in Minnesota are the words "different" and "interesting" euphemisms for something bad. See...we are pleasant in our disdain.
