Several Canadian mountains have jaw dropping vertical rises: Mount St. Elias and Mount Logan are similar to Denali in prominance and Mt Robson rises almost 10000 feet on its southern flank and almost straight up 7500 feet off of the lake on it's western flank. Mt. Currie behind Pemberton BC rises over 8000 feet straight up. Mont Blanc in France has a really spectacular rise as well.

St. Elias is 18,000 ft. in 10 miles, but considered part of Alaska, no?
