well, Boston seems like it should be the obvious answer but maybe that's just cuz i'm from there.
Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern, Suffolk, Wentworth, Simmons, Mass Art, UMass Boston, a good amount more. Plus Harvard and MIT just across the river.

I'm sure that most capitals have some college in them. But not all big ones.

Providence has Providence College, Brown, RISD
Richmond has a few I am pretty sure
Sacramento, SLC, PHX, I mean they all must have soooome decent sized school although I am not sure of specific ones without looking it up.
I know there are a lot of schools near Albany. In Troy, Schenacady (sp?). Union, Skidmore, RPI all in the area.
Hartford has some smaller schools

Ahhh I'm sure we will get answers for basically every capital

EDIT: Of course. I don't know how I forgot ATL until I saw LovingDecatur's post.

I guess it depends on what you consider big, but . . . I can start with "the world's biggest college town," Boston (BU, Northeastern each have over 20k students). Then there's Raleigh (NC State), Columbia (U. of SC), Tallahassee (FSU), Baton Rouge (LSU), Madison (U. of Wisc.), St. Paul (U. of Minn. flagship campus is in both Mnnpls. and St. Paul), Lincoln (U. of Nebraska), and SLC (U. of Utah). Then, besides any I may be overlooking, you get into the question of how large a university has to be to be considered large, and the question of whether to include cities in the capital city's metro area (East Lansing and Tempe, for example).

I don't know how I forgot that.

I think it'd be harder to name state capitals without some decent sized university.

Since that isn't the thread, I'll jump aboard.

Columbia, SC has USC.

Raleigh has NC State and others (and Duke and UNC are in the Triangle area as well, though not in Raleigh proper).

Richmond has University of Richmond (which isn't that big) and VCU(which is big).

Madison, WI has UW.

Nashville, TN has lots of schools, but Vanderbilt and Belmont spring to mind.

U of Utah is in SLC.

MSU is in Lansing. (Well, East Lansing)

LSU is in Baton Rouge.

FSU is in Tallahassee.
