In other words, what comes first, your city or your state?
Are you a New Yorker first, or New Yorker first? Okay, bad joke.
But really what comes first? Your city, or your state? Are you a Chicagoen first, or Illinoisian first?
For all you Patriots first, lets assume that we are all Americans first.
Within the State I am quite proud to mention what town I am from, outside the State I am quite proud to mention the State I am from. Depends on the location I would guess. I would also have to say equally proud of both City and State.
I have zero affection for my current town of residence, but I love my state.
To clarify... I don't actually live IN the town that is part of my home address. I actually love where I live, but it is out in the country and not "in town." I dislike the actual town, though (Ionia, MI).

I certainly identify more with Chicago than with IL.
Conversely, I consider myself a product of not only SC, where I was raised, but also NC, where I went to college and lived after school. I identify with those states much more than specific towns within the Carolinas.
I identify with my city or metro area first than the state.
