I remember a post that said that many Asian Americans in Texas have a Midwestern accent - I guess the accent in general is flattening out - but I was wondering if many other minority groups deliberately shy away from the southern accent? Or is it, because they tend to live in urban areas the accent there is less strong? Also, I would assume the lack of family history and the desire to make it economically would contribute. By 'other' I mean non-white and non-black.
For a while I was buying BBQ from a BBQ joint owned by Koreans who grew up in Texas, and they had kind of a hybrid Texas/Korean accent. It's not something you expect to see, being greeted with a " How Y'all doin?", but the brisket was top notch and authentic.
