Let's face it, finding an out of state job is very hard. Can anyone supply me and my husband with some tips how to land an interview? We've done the send resumes to companies (hiring and not at this time), been to the internet sites (Career builder and alike), gone via newspaper links..everything!

Do you think you HAVE to go via a recruiter or agency?

I usually get the most reasonable hits from computerjobs and monster when I've looked for openings in the past. You could always find open house/hiring events and plan a visit to a hotel in the area then interview in person. Have you tried opm.gov as well? They are offering government jobs all over the place and have been quite helpful to people in the past.

I don't think you have to go to a recruiter but head hunters are pretty good at helping to place out of state people. They usually know the right places to go to first for your skillset and get over the out of state hurdle.

Depending on what you're looking for and where many of these head hunters will show in a monster search if you have a profile there. The key is to market your skills to the job ads for that state and highlight willing to relocate. Many companies that shy away from out of state personnel are trying to limit any external expenses so if you can assure them you relocate on your own dime it's like money in the bank for them.
