I get irritated when I have to pay to travel on a road that is essentially and Interstate highway when my own home state doesn't operate any toll highways. In my case, I've come across this in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Illinois. I think it's I-80.
Of course, I understand the economic aspects of it, however, I'm irritated because people from those states can travel across my own state without paying any tolls. I've sometimes wished that we could set up toll booths at the state border and charge an admission toll to people from those states.
First of all it would be patently unconstitutional to pick and choose which state's residents would be charged a toll. Second, you pay to use the roads one way or another, whether it's through tolls or gasoline taxes. Pick your poison.

you "think" it's I-80? Somebody needs to get out of Mole's Michigan more often and travel.
It sounds like you are advocating toll roads in my fair home state, of which I am still a voter. I highly suggest not running for office anytime soon, as I have vowed to vote against ANYONE calling for toll roads in Michigan.

You are right on. I live in CT where we have no tolls (they were abolished a long time ago) but we pay one of the highest gasoline taxes in the country along with Hawaii, California, and I believe Illinois. Either way, you pay to drive on the roads.

Actually Illinois gas taxes aren't that bad, precisely because we have toll roads. It's not until you get into the Chicago area that they get bad, because some counties add their own tax, the city of Chicago adds its own, and there's also a regional gas tax in the Chicago area to fund public transportation. Outside the Chicago area gas taxes aren't that bad.

... if Michigan Gov Granholm suggests that the great state of Michigan needs toll roads, then I'll post her mug up too. Don't make me do that, Mole will give you nightmares of good sugary things, like unemployment, and rotting infrastructure, and union politics.
Let's leave the tolled everything and taxed everything to the great state of Illinois. "Contain the Pain!"

Toll roads and high taxes are not a Midwestern idea; they were brought here from, like, New Jersey.
Some newspaper ran a political cartoon with Blago whacking out the news of Illinois businesses and walking away with a bag of revenues.
Too bad the media doesn't feel the same way about toll roads.
Being from Michigan, I suppose the gasoline tax route doesn't bother me so much.
I hate tolls, and I often will take an alternate route to avoid them.
