I can find positive things about almost every month. The only months I really do not enjoy are February and November. February because winter's been going on for quite a while and spring is peeking around the corner every now and then, but not really. It's still mostly cold, but since it's also slightly warmer there is a lot of rain. I don't like November because that's when it really starts to get cold, the sun sets very early and you're not really used to either one yet. It is rainy and overcast but there's not much snow yet (which is much more nicer than rain, unless you have to drive).
Favorite months are April, May, June and September. Also October, but only if the weather is nice.

The peak of autumn happens in mid-October to mid-November, in NC.
The peak of spring tends to happen in early April.

So those tend to be the most beautiful periods of the year. May and September have great weather too though. The beaches are swimmable in those months.

The winter months are brown and ugly. It only snows once or twice on average. Summers are hot and muggy, usually 2-3 weeks of weather where it's too hot to do anything outside. They're actually beautiful, and it's fun to visit the beach/mountains that time of year, and the summer nights have the perfect temperature usually. But spring and autumn win out, and I'd give a slight edge to autumn because the brilliant colors of autumn here last longer.
