Can anyone comment on living in either of these places?

Looking for a city with a smaller cost of living that DC.

Thinking the suburbs of Philly could do and still be close to a large city.

I know nothing of Charlotte, NC and Delaware.

Can people comment on the overall feel of these places as well as things to do, good areas of the city, etc...?

Much thanks.

I would choose Philadelphia. Here is a great list of Philadelphia suburbs:

Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia

DailyJournalist- What makes Philly so great in your opinion? I see the excellent schools are on the main line suburbs. Those look pretty pricey. How's the traffic in and out of the city during rush hour times from the main line area?

Philadelphia has good employment options and the cost of living is less than the other major cities in the Bos-Wash corridor. In addition the city provides great cultural amenities with good public transportation options. Also, not all the great schools are on the mainline, there are many other suburbs that provide good schools at a more affordable price.

Research Media and West Chester, also the NJ suburbs of Haddon Township, Collingswood, and Haddonfield.

Good list. If you want sprawl suburbia, there are some great choices in both PA and NJ as well.

Not really in Philadelphia, just the metro area. And the only thing that makes them "suburbs" is that they lye within the metro area of a much larger city. They're no more "suburbs" of Philly than Wilmington Delaware is.

DE would be a good choice also...still close to Philly, and not all that far from Baltimore and DC. And DE would probably be a little more affordable than Philly/NJ.
