From Colorado, moved to Dallas because there are so many jobs here and cost of living is much cheaper. The trade off is a negative of quiality of life. Willing to move almost ANYWHERE that has jobs.

The heat getting to you. Texas is hot no doubt but it isn't usually this hot this early. This is just a freak heatwave. I say your best bet is Atlanta or maybe San Jose.
Atlanta too hot and not a great place to raise a family. San Jose sounds like an interesting option. Not sure what the cost of living is there though. I believe it's pretty high.

What makes Atlanta not a great place to raise a family? And Atlanta does not get as hot as Dallas.
Maybe you can try Seattle as well. But the COL is high there too. There's really not much in between.
