it can seriously be an ordeal. i've waited a long time just sitting at the pump. finally an attendent will show up, turn on the pump and disappear again. i could've pumped, paid and been outta there. cold or no cold.

Well on several occastions it sat there for a very long time in Newark, Elizabeth and Jersey City.

I tip sometimes...(if they wash my windows or check some stuff under the hood)
but it is better... it offers thousands of more jobs in this state.

Oregon? I did not know that.

There are full service stations in NY, especially LI. I never tipped anybody, especially since I usually went to the same station all the time and saw the same attendant all the time.

The ultimate make-work program.

You do know that other states have gas stations with a "full service" option, so if you do not want to pump your own gas, you can pull up to these pumps and receive the same service?

In Oregon there are few delays, with the exception of the mega-bay stations occasionally.

Full-service option is quite rare in Washington and Idaho, can't really speak for other states.

BTW, very few tip their attendant in Oregon.

I'm afraid not. If you're looking for cheapest gas in the nation, look at Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, etc.

Oregon had full-service-only stations as well last time I was there... about three years ago. It seemed like a fine idea if it creates jobs and if customers like it, but no way am I tipping unless I'm really moved to. There's already enough industries that place the burden of paying their employees on their customers.

When I'm in a hurry, full service always an ordeal. Otherwise its bearable. I'd still rather pump the gas myself.

Massachusetts doesn't require full service, but I choose to go to a full service place. Much more convenient. I agree that the extra jobs that full service places provide are a benefit to the economy.
