The Sopranos (A show, but a top rated one at that; I also would often see them filming at the Bada Bing strip club scene in Lodi, or at least the crew)
Lean on me (That movie with Morgan Freeman who makes a change for an inner city school in Paterson, NJ)
Garden state
Jersey Girl
New Jersey Drive
Miss Congeniality
War of The Worlds
Analyze this or that (i don't remember)
And i think the saw movies are taken place in NJ.. I'm not sure on that though
Just Friends
The Wrestler
Mean Girls (They use the Montclair High School)
the Harold and Kumar movies.
The Family Stone
The Perfect Holiday

More than most would think

New Jersey - Clerks, Mallrats, etc.

This would go a lot smoother if people would name the state they are from when talking about these films, and not confuse where a movie takes place with where a movie was filmed.

Office Space didn't have a specific setting. It was supposed to represent Anywhere Run-of-the-Mill, U.S.A. (whatever that means ) Parts were filmed in Las Colinas and parts were filmed in Austin.

'Friday the 13 part VII' was filmed about 20 miles from my home, and also portions of 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' (filming took place in Bay Minette,AL and also 'Brookley Field' in Mobile).

'To Kill A Mockingbird' was also based on the town of Monroeville, AL about 45 miles away (birthplace of Harper Lee and childhood home of Truman Capote). The actual movie was a replica of 1930's Monroeville, but filmed in CA.

They don't take place 100 percent in the state but Walk The Line, Coal Miner's Daughter, Elvis (a TV movie), Great Balls of Fire, Nashville, Walking Tall, Sergeant York, The Firm and The Client come immediately to mind as well as just about any movie that shows the roots of rock and roll musical performers that came through Sun Records in Memphis, the country acts that made it big in Nashville or Davy Crockett.

Brokeback Mountain took place in New Mexico?

I thought it took place in Wyoming and Texas.
