- a wet, dense metropolis (more urban than suburban) with disproportionately cloudy weather (the less sunshine the better) and lots of high-rise buildings

- cosompolitan/sophisticated culture (not a sports town)

- solid public transportation (city where a lot of young people don't have cars)

- good female-to-male ratio/lots of girls in their 20's

Most important to me are the weather and city-aspects. I am from New York City and am looking to move somewhere for college with more overcast/bleaker and drearier weather.

I'm making a list of cities to go visit that fit these characteristics so I can accurately determine where I'd like to go to college.

Thanks a lot in advance, I truly do appreciate it.

To TAN: All but the weather aspect - I'd really like to be in a city where the majority of days in a year are solidly overcast and drizzly. NYC gets a good amount of sunshine, even during the winter. I suppose this summer being a prime exception.

Regardless, I'm 21 years old and I've lived here all my life. I am looking for a new city to call home.

Thank you. I am definitely planning a trip to the west coast to check out both of these cities. Seattle is naturally a consideration.

I've never been to either of them, but does Portland really get a lot of overcast/have a lot of rainy days? On par with Seattle, for example?

Thanks. Seems like this is the credited choice given my preferences.

This picture of Minneapolis my friends sent me captures exactly the kind of weather I long for, on a daily basis.

All my life I've had these really big, truly gargantuan windows in my room and always woke up early, no matter how tired I was, to take advantage rainy/cloudy days.

Some people do that with sunny blue skies, but for me it was always the opposite.

Seattle and Portland are great fits save for Seattle's public transportation being mediocre, and the female-to-male ratio not particularly favorable (not terrible but not great).

Rainy Days:
Seattle: 154
Portland: 151

Cloudiest Cities:
6. Seattle: 226 Days
7. Portland: 222 Days

They're neck & neck

Cloudiest Cities in the US
