I agree. For suburbs, it's a challenge.

Now with that said, what makes Mobile ugly other than the crime you mention?

Actually it's not. It ranks higher than the national average in several categories for starters. Such as: Murder, Rape, Robbery, Burglary, Property Crime, and Theft Moderator cut: linking to competitors sites is not allowed

St. Paul, MN is a larger city than Mobile, yet their rankings are identical.
Crime Rates St. Paul, Minnesota Mobile, Alabama United States
Violent Crime 7 7 3
Property Crime 7 7 3
The crime indices range 1-10. A higher number corresponds with more crime. Our crime rates are based on FBI data.

Mobile Ranks 75th ahead of Boston, Long Beach, CA, Tampa, Charlotte, Ft. Worth, New York City.

****EDIT**** found an updated ranking. it looks like they have dropped to 139th from 75. However it's still ranking higher than larger cities like Portland, Ft. Worth, San Diego, etc

I guess Orlando has changed a lot. I haven't been there since the early 1990's. At the time I thought it would be a nice place to live, but it doesn't sound so nice now!

Los Angeles.

As fun as Los Angeles can be, it is an ugly run-down dump. What people don't know is that 80% of Los Angeles is just miles and miles complete uglieness. Of course there are some nice areas, but the hideous places far outnumber the nicer ones. Let's not forget that smog makes it even worse!!!

LA sure is different from what you see on TV.

ABQ, New Mexico also gets my vote.

Is horrible. The crime is sky high and strip malls everywhere.

last time we were there was 2000, and it was one of the ugliest cities. Dirty and overcrowded. Traffic everywhere. May as well move to NYC without any culture or museums, just Targets.

I wonder how many people here have even been to places they are bashing or if they are just bashing based on the stereotype of the individual places. I find everywhere has its own beauty. I don't much care for the great plains region, but there are some nice cities there.
