Did the Recent Federal Minimum Wage Increase Help You? (apartment, house)

Might be in the wrong place, but since it had to do with the whole country this seemed fitting.

For those that work across the US, has the minimum wage hike helped you or hurt you?

For me, its just made things that much tighter, because the cost of everything went up to compensate.

It helped initially (before I got a higher paying job) since the cost of everything else was going up before the minimum wage hike was even put in place.

See, before it went up, I didnt notice much else going up too badly. Now that its 7.25, Ive noticed things went up ALOT more.

I heard somewhere that 65% of the people in the US making minimum wage are teens. I have one at my house who received a raise when that increase kicked in.

I was making nicely above minimum wage before the increase. Now I make barely above it. Makes me so mad....>:S

No, they are not kids. There is that percentage or more just here in TN that are adults working themselves to death and can barely afford a crappy apartment in the bad part of town and struggle to buy bread and sandwich meat on a weekly basis. Here the people on welfare are eating better than the workers. Serious problem. They won't work because they eat better on welfare than they do working. I made 7.00 an hour to be a graphic designer which was 1.50 more than minimum wage at that time... but still crap since I did have to go to school, especially since kids working at a grocery store make more than me. Now I make 7.25, but each and every item I buy went up .20 cents to 1.00, so I'm worse off now than before. Not to mention, I now make the exact same amount as the warehouse workers. It's all just a bunch of crap.

I'm sure it effected people in areas that went by the federal minimum wage more than it effected people in areas that had a minimum wage that was higher than the federal.
