Since this thread was created over 7 years ago, my list has changed drastically.
Vermont: Absolutely beautiful, friendly people, unique towns, Burlington, maple syrup, Ben & Jerry's, and arguably the best pancakes I have ever eaten. When I live in Upsate NY, I was roughly 40 mins away, and spent many weekends there.
Pennsylvania: Reminds me of a more successful West Virginia. I love Pittsburgh, Hershey Park, State College, and Sheetz!
Maryland: I think Maryland is a great blend of South and North. It offers terrain similar to WV in the west, with a coastal region that reminds me of a southern New England. Annapolis is incredible. Maryland has always reminded me of a small kingdom of its own.
Florida: I went to college in Florida and have spent a lot of time growing up there. I think that there is a lot of flaws with in the state, but I generally like the convenience that Florida offers. It is certainly over developed. The places that are less commercialized are great, like Saint Augustine and Key West.
New York: Really the only thing that puts NY in my top 5 are the Adirondacks. I lived there for a couple years and thought the scenery was awesome. Similar to Vermont there is a lot of opportunities for recreation and sight seeing. I do not care much for NYC or the Finger lakes region. Albany is a neat area.
Edit: I was the goober that created this thread and I forgot my own rules. I suppose Florida and New York can be replaced with Maine and South Carolina.

I'd rate Vermont #1 as well. Tried to move there a few years ago but unfortunately it did not work out.
I don't get all this love for Maryland. I've lived here my entire life and I hate it. Way too much traffic if you are in the DC Metropolitan area and the people are rude and unfriendly for the most part. It's truly a nightmare. And if you live anywhere else good luck on finding gainful employment.
Those with a lot of money I would suggest not coming here as the taxes are way too high.
I like Missouri, and I think it gets too much **** from people sometimes.
