I don't know if it's true, but one gets the impression that liberals tend to be more reserved than conservatives, perhaps they have a 'live and let live' attitude but on the other hand they don't want to engage with other people as much. Does it seem people in cities like Oklahoma and Jacksonville are more extroverted than those in San Francisco or Boston? Or say Lincoln, Nebraska, to discount the Southern cultural thing? Then again some conservatives' social life revolves around family, church, their own circle, whereas cities like San Fran or NYC offer a better environment for connection.

I think your generality is somewhat in reverse given my life experiences.

I wouldn't call native New Yorkers reserved as a general rule. They may not be as nosy as people in some small Southern town, but reserved they are not.

In your face and judgemental - yes - they are more "reserved" in that sense. They don't expect you to be a proud and loud Christian and if you are that's your business, no one elses.

They aren't "reserved" in a quiet sense though.

Cities like Seattle, Portland and Minneapolis/St. Paul seem to fit the "reserved" bill. Liberal-leaning Austin always seems downright boisterous.

NYers are reserved with certain things. Maybe tolerant is a better word. We accept gays here, we legalized same sex marriage, we are filled with all different races & cultures. NYers are uptight when it comes to their jobs - it's a big rat race - but really we like kick back & have fun too. A lot of NYers I meet are also very pro-choice. We're a blue state.

Lots of friendly liberals in Austin. Can't say I had the same experience walking into a Waffle House in rural Georgia. Sheesh.

Conservative people seem more engaging if you are just like them, but that's a sweeping generalization. I've met some backwards looking people that were exceptionally nice to this young black man.

Austin is in Texas, so liberal or not people are friendly here.

People are people everywhere. Texans aren't anymore friendly than anyone else.
