I agree with EVERYTHING you said. My family moved from NY to FL when I was a kid and I spent 7 sweltering summers there. I beat it out of there as soon as I reached college age. My mother still lives there, but she enjoys living indoors in air conditioning most of the year, she's not an outdoors person. She is content to live in a gated community. She also has little appreciation for the other amendities the Noth has to offer that you don't realize that are there until you leave. To each their own!
It never ceases to amaze me how many people move to Florida and then suddenly start complaining about the heat, humidity, lightning, bugs, hurricanes and rain.
I can at least understand people complaining about the "hidden" negatives of Florida...such as the service based economy, sky high insurance, high property tax, bad drivers, gated communities, lack of community.... you may not realize those before moving down. But the weather and climate? C'mon....you should at least know that before making the move!
yes, it seems like I bashed Florida.... but I didn't. For me the positives of Florida far outweigh the negatives, and I find the negatives of the other states far more intolerable than the small problems Florida has. I am very happy to live in Florida.
I lived in NYS for 58 years, minus 6 months in 1971 that I lived in Florida. I knew then that I didn't want to live in Florida. It has now been 2 years this time (husband's job) since i have been here and it feels like an eternity.
With my last breath as an old lady, I want to get OUT.
I still dont' get why some people from northern states who love four seasons and what the area has to offer even bother moving to the Sunbelt. It makes no sense, if you love four seasons and the culture in northern states then what on earth would prompt you to move to Florida?
Once again...FLORIDA is not the entire "Sunbelt" region. The rest of the region actually has four seasons. Some of them have very snowy/cold winters (parts of Virginia, NC, Georgia, Tennesse, Kentucky, Arkansas, Texas, etc). There is no need to represent Florida weather as that of the entire region.

Why should this stupid thread be any different than the others? They can't move north fast enough for me.

I wasn't trying to imply that the entire sunbelt has FL's climate and does not have seasons. Most of the sunbelt has seasons, just not quite like in northern states.

Your post was not objectionable. In fact, I totally agree with it.
I moved to Florida because I had to. And I didn't leave because of the weather, although that certainly is a perk.
I became a half-back when I moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. I'm originally from Massachusetts.
I live among friendly people and beautiful scenery, the job situation is decent, taxes are low and housing is very inexpensive. There's lots to do in this sweet little city but we are also close to The Great Smoky Mountains.
The weather is fabulous, even though that is not why we moved here. We have four seasons "lite." Summer is much cooler than Florida, winter is balmy compared to up north, with an occasional dusting of snow, fall is beautiful and spring is a show-stopper.
This is the smartest thing I ever did.
