One other thing all these firms have in common - they are all doing things that are difficult to outsource or move offshore. Good for US jobs.
It's easy being "Green" when you outsource your dirtiest operations (Hello HP? Dell? etc?) to factories in China pouring untreated effluent into rivers, running off of dirty high sulfur coal and treating workers like garbage.
I think its commendable that companies seek to adopt such a business model. Nothing wrong with being eco-conscious.
OTOH, I agree with Dell and HP and the like are being two-faced by outsourcing their dirty work overseas. That's deplorable and hypocritical.
Also, we benefit in this region from the evolution of another related industry-clean technology, which I anticipate will eventually help us end our addiction to foreign oil.
You want to invest in these companies based on the sole fact that they're the most environmentally destructive!? Cause that......makes them financial smart.....or something?

That is a biased assessment by the Sierra Club.
Probably based on energy consumption.
Yes, some things we all use come from energy intensive processes. Should we penalize companies who provide them, or even worse, make them into pariahs? I'll tell you what, you go and be the first to give up your relatively inexpensive electricity and high quality food. Like how they live in the third world.

"Smartest firms?" lol. Riiiiggght.....Alleghany (which provides the power where I live) uses dirty coal-fired plants to generate 95% of it's electricity. You mean the least environmentally responsible, dumbest firms. I hope you're grandkids will feel the same way when they're choking to deathe on all those greenhouse gases and when half of SF is under water. (Okay maybe that's an exaggeration, but you get the picture)
Do you really live in SF, and if you do, do you have any friends?

What if your grandkids are freezing to death, starving, in a world turned cold, war weary and much poorer than the one we now have. I can assume just as well as you can, about exactly what impacts human activities do and do not have.
