Sorry to be so general, but over the past few months, we have felt like "pin balls" in our attempt to relocate; researching and sending job applications all over our great country in search of finding that perfect place for us. Needless to say, the job search is difficult, but we haven't given up; but we are turning to you for advice so that we can better streamline our search. We currently live in Naples, FL. We have been anxious to leave here because we don't like this constant heat and we don't care for the attitude that permeates almost everything down here. We have 2 teenage children, so we want to be in place that offers them opportunities to actually spend time outside (we would love for them to experience the 4 seasons!), we need to be near universities/colleges for them, as well as job opportunities when they would graduate (my daughter hopes to enter politics, so a "drivable" urban area might be nice). We all absolutely LOVE the mountains; and dream of buildling a log home! We enjoy more conservative values, but aren't bothered by people w/opposing political opinions. We would love a place that has a small town feel, but is drivable to the "necessities" (especially good medical care). My husband is an IT/Project manager and I dream of opening a working kennel on whatever property we would find. We thought NE Tennessee was going to be "the place" for us, but the job salaries there were too low. Please, any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated so that we can better focus our efforts and make this a reality for us. Thank you.

If you don't mind moving pretty far, maybe check out the Seattle area. It is pretty liberal, but the suburbs east of Lake Washington (the "Eastside") tend to be more conservative. Also, I was disappointed (still am) because I don't think there are four seasons here, but I'm from the Midwest, and I think if you're coming from Florida, you won't be disappointed. It's warm in the summer, cool in the winter (and it snows a few times a year), the leaves change color in the fall, etc.

As for the rest of your requirements, Seattle fits all of them pretty well. People spend tons of time outside here, and the weather usually allows for it - it's rarely very hot, it doesn't snow very often, and the infamous rain is actually more of a drizzle. The mountains are nearby, and there are three national parks you can reach in less than half a day (Mount Rainier is only a couple hours away). The University of Washington is in the middle of the city, and there are a couple private universities as well. And you won't have any trouble finding a good doctor here. There are many good hospitals, including the University of Washington's.

Check into Marietta, GA. They've got an adorable town square with a "small-town" feel, great education (Marietta City Schools rank among the top 15 percent of public school systems nationally), is only about 15-20 minutes from the city of Atlanta and a number of top medical faciliites (Emory Medical Center, Children's healthcare of Atlanta, Kaiser Permanente, etc), and it's a short drive from entertainment options. The Marietta Welcome Center - Home - Home

Marietta is also a few minutes away from the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield park Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park and a reasonable drive to the North Georgia Mountains Our Georgia Mountains - North GA Information. For the kids, White Water is a huge water park that is also located in the Marietta area and Cumberland Mall is a short drive away. Some of the country's top schools are in close distance. GA Tech is about 20-20 minutes south, Emory and Anges Scott (a woman's college) are about 40 minutes away, and UGA is a couple of hours away in Athens.

If you're thinking of owning your own business, Atlanta is among the best in the country. According to the ajc.com (our local paper) "Among the 15 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S., Atlanta had the highest entrepreneurial activity rate in 2008." Atlanta is friendly to entrepreneurs | Blog Break

While it only snows occassionally in metro Atlanta, you will not have to endure perpetual heat and we get all four seasons. The plus is it gets warm earlier than many other places but our winters are still cold, and our falls are cool.

Considering that this is the south, you will not be far from folks who are more conservative-leaning, particularly in the Cobb County area.

Hope this helps and good luck with your search!

Manchester, NH could be an option.

- 4 Seasons: Yes
- Higher Education: New England boasts one of the best if not the best collection of Colleges and Universities
- Politics/Drivable Urban Area: Boston is about an hour away by car, plus there is a commuter rail and Bus that takes many people into the area. For Medical Care as you mentioned, Boston is the premier city for Healthcare in the nation.
- Mountains: List of mountains in New Hampshire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
No problem finding mountains in New Hampshire, MT. Washington being the largest.
- Conservative: NH is more Libertarian that anything else, so Conservative values are more on the economic side, socially more liberal leaning but you will find a mix.
- IT/Project Manager: Many people I work with commute into Boston from Manchester for work or Telecommute. Having the High Tech and IT sector close by in Boston (2nd highest concentration of Venture Capital funding after Silicon Valley) In addition Manchester itself has been getting alot of attention for IT jobs lately as well:
