Hello! I'm Katie and I've been doing hair for four years. I have lived in Southern California my whole life but always have had an itch to move out of this state. I don't know where I would start or how to began a search but I thought about asking people where they live/work and what they love about it! I also want to know the pro's and con's to it as well. I'm leaning towards east coast but I'm open to hear everything. I have so many questions I don't even know where to begin. I obviously want to work in a great, amazing salon with a talented staff. Somewhere I can further my education and most importantly, work with kind, nice and non-gossip people.

I definitely would like to live near a big city (Los Angeles just isn't my cup of tea, Orange County is too stuffy for me but I do love San Diego it's just an hour a way which is too far...) California is just too expensive to live and it blows my mind to know that there are such inexpensive places to live in this county and still be near a major city. My boyfriend really loves upstate New York and Ohio. I would like to find a good middle-ground for the both of us. I appreciate your input in advanced, thank you!

My midwest selection is Madison, WI.

As for the east coast, I would say (from south to north): Atlanta metro; Raleigh-Durham area; the Beltway area; Monroe County, NY

You'll probably want to look at places where you'll have good job opportunities. Also, cities where you won't encounter unkind and gossipy types rules out much of the east coast...at least from DC northward.

That said I'd recommend Raleigh-Durham also but fear the type of salon/professional environment you're looking for won't be found there. You might check out Nashville. A low cost of living, a lot of big city amenities and it's geographically more centered to the midwest and east coast. The city is quite friendly and the presence of the music industry there should be a big draw for the salon industry.
