Do they have special devices to shut off phones when the engine is started for the states that have banned texting? I don't see how it can be enforced to stop people from doing it.

Good point, I agree.
I wonder what the manufacturers of texting devices think. Maybe sort of like what the alcoholic beverage industry thinks about driving while drunk. Hey, lay off the people, will ya...

It's absolutely stupid. A friend was doing this and I couldn't help but ask her if she was retarded or suicidal. Mississippi has a ban on teens texting while driving, but there was an uproar because it wasn't extended to everyone. I support any and all bans on texting while driving. It's the same thing as trying to write something, read a book, use a computer, etc. while driving.

I'm so glad that you guys agree with me. I just read that it's 23 times more likely to have an accident while texting while driving. I guess that someone after two beers can drive better than someone texting while driving.

States which already banned texting while driving:

California
Connecticut
D.C.
Maryland
New Jersey
New York
Washington

List of countries that ban cellphone use while driving

My initial guess is it'd be like drunk-driving or seat-belt laws. If they see you texting they pull you over. Although maybe it would be harder to prove.

Well they can't pull you over for texting. They have to have another reason to pull you over and then if they find out you were texting they can give you an extra ticket for that.

So who are these people who voted no? (5 at the moment) I'd like to hear your rationale.

5 patriots who don't think the federal government should do more to restrict personal liberties. I want DC to stay out of my car... Where in the constitution is a centralized government authorized to enact or enforce such specific and ridiculous laws?

The President just passed a bill banning ALL texting on gov't jobs, in gov't & personal vehicles used for their gov't jobs.
