My county came in at Number 77. I'm surprised. We're home to some of the poorest cities in the country (Newark, Irvington, the Oranges). I guess the country club suburbs in the western portion of the county make up for it a bit. I'm also surprised that 8 of NJ's 21 counties are on the list.

Of the top 10 the only one I wasn't familiar with was Loving, Texas. According to Wikipedia it has a population of 67!?!?! What's going on there?

Wow, Denver seems have slid a bit but not as much as I would have thought considering that the economy has not been that good for the last 5 years or so.

Arapahoe County, Colorado seems to be sliding also I wonder if thats because of the increased immigration in the north-western part of the county in Aurora. But Greenwood Village, Cherry Hills Village and South-eastern Aurora more then make up for it I guess.

Not suprised to see Clear Creek County is the highest per-capita income outside of Aspen's Pitkin County as Clear Creek County is the gateway to the Rockies.

Anyway not bad for Colorado, Six of the counties in the Denver metro area in the top 100! Douglas, Arapahoe, Jefferson, Denver, Clear Creek and Boulder counties.

It seems like they (Bureau of Economic Analysis) have per-capita income statistics for every county in the nation in 2005 very interesting stuff.

Yes, you've got the Montclairs, Caldwells, Glen Ridges to more than adequately make up for that. I'm not surprised 8 of the NJ counties are there - this state has an enormous amount of "wealth", by and large b/c it's sandwiched between NY and Philly.

I live in #8, and when I moved out here originally (15+ yrs ago) had no idea how much fricken $$$$ I was going to be surrounded by! Lots of "old money".

I live in Fairfax County VA and it is in the top 10. There are plenty of people who are struggling here and one of the reason is the wages are so high. It just increases the costs for everyone and the result is a lower standard of living. I would like to see a list of where the actual standard of living is rated and is based on wages related to the cost of living.

Howdy, "neighbor"! I agree that everything is not rosy here in Fairfax County. However, I attribute it not to the high wages but to the supply and demand of housing and land in general. Outside of that, I believe that most other costs are comparable to my old hometown of Philly.

Perhaps we are both right.

Some of these counties don't have a large population. Even a few in the top ten. I know Fairfield county has about a million people and is extremely rich (always in top five or six). Marin county has somewhere between two hundreed thousand and three hundreed thousand. The Wyoming county doesn't have nearly as many people, so wealth is hard to compare to other counties.

Oil/gas and ranching.... Apparently, the population is down from 107 (in 1990), and its peak was 285 (in 1940). I would like to visit it, just to see what it's like....

The differential of the poor and wealthy in NYC is astounding.

Manhattan is tops (even with the poor uptown section)

while the Bronx is the 3rd poorest urban (100,000) county in the US.....and home to the poorest congresional district in the US.

Brooklyn I think was 8th in poorest urban counties.
